A note on new piercings

What makes an earring waterproof

A waterproof earring is one that can stay in through water without changing colour or reacting. Two things make that possible.

• A stainless steel base. 316L stainless steel does not rust, does not turn green and does not tarnish, so water, sweat and soap have nothing to react with.
• 18K gold plating over that steel. The plating gives the warm gold colour. Because the base underneath cannot corrode, the colour stays even.

What about pearls and stones?
